OpenURL

OpenURL: This feature will allow users who do not have access to a particular publication in IEEE Xplore to access content via their library's collection using an OpenURL link. When a user attempts to access content that is not within their subscription, they will be redirected to a landing page that contains an option labeled "Link to Your Library Collection". In order to utilize this feature, the customer just needs to supply us with the base URL of their link resolver.

Educational Courses for Institutional Subscribers

In March 2007, Educational Courses were integrated into IEEE Xplore for individual purchase by IEEE members (with content only accessible by members logged on using their IEEE Web Accounts). In this release, the ability to browse and search for courses has been exposed to the general public and customers can now purchase a license for their institution to have unlimited access to any of the courses available.

Tabbed Search Results

Presentation of search results has been restructured into a tabbed approach. The default view will display all IEEE/IET publications, users will be able to click on tabs to view other results including Books, Courses or Application Notes [Beta].

Citation Search

This new search feature will provide a structured approach for searching for known items within IEEE Xplore. Citation Search will be available to all users via the Search menu and will provide an interface where they can enter a keyword in the publication title (or ISBN/ISSN) along with specific fields such as volume, issue, page number, etc. IEEE Xplore will then return either an exact match or up to five most relevant results.

New Content Offering - Technology Surveys

These surveys, assembled by experts in the field, provide a brief and easy way to gain an overview of specific leading-edge technologies. Users will find a collection of links to related articles embedded within each survey to guide them in their research. Surveys can be accessed using the IEEE Xplore Browse menu located within the top navigation. Inclusion of this information within IEEE Xplore is experimental and continuation will be based on feedback we receive regarding usefulness.

New Content Offering - Application Notes

This content is prepared by industry and provides practical applied content created to explain, illustrate and promote technologies or products. Links to Application Notes will be returned within the traditional search results via a dedicated tab and will be viewable by all IEEE Xplore users. Application Notes are provided via a co-branded GlobalSpec site and have not been reviewed or endorsed by the IEEE. Inclusion of this information within IEEE Xplore is experimental and continuation will be based on feedback we receive regarding usefulness.

Contextual Advertising

This experiment will provide links to relevant whitepapers within the left pane of the search results only if the user performs a search using one of the specific terms: RFID, Data Mining, VOIP or Sensor Networks. Links to download whitepapers are provided in partnership with a third party, Industry Brains. This feature will be initially targeted to a limited audience (guests and authenticated IEEE members) for a trial period. At the end of this trial period, we will evaluate feedback and determine whether to continue to offer this feature and expand to a larger audience incorporating additional terms.

Revised Author Search

This feature has been modified to remove the author browse listing and provide search tips on how to effectively search for documents by a particular author using various name formats. The logic that controls how author search is performed has been modified to return the most relevant results.

More Options for Downloading Citations

The ability to download citations in BibTeX and RefWorks formats has been added to the existing download types (ASCII, ProCite, EndNote & RefMan).

Updates to OPAC Listing
