Summary: Necessary bandwidth for high-index FM with Gaussian modulation is studied. On the basis of the quasi-static argument, a simple formula is devised for calculating the transmission bandwidth. It is shown that the proposed formula is more meaningful than Carson's rule, since it relates bandwidth to the transmission quality and the peak factor of the modulating signal.
